Olympic Oils has operated from its Merseyside facility for over 35 years. As a family-owned business, we take a long-term view — understanding that sustainable, responsible operations are not just good ethics, they are good business.

Responsible Sourcing
The ingredients we source are the foundation of everything we produce. We work with established, reputable suppliers and require adherence to quality, safety and ethical standards throughout our supply chain.

Packaging & Waste
Our in-house packaging plant — producing PET bottles, HDPE containers and tin plate drums — gives us direct control over packaging quality and waste. We continually look to reduce packaging material use without compromising product integrity.

Energy & Emissions
We have made a significant and tangible investment in renewable energy at our Whiston facility. A 400 KVA solar panel system has been installed across two stages, directly reducing our reliance on grid electricity and cutting the carbon footprint of our manufacturing operations.

Palm Oil Certification
RSPO Certified Palm Oil
Olympic Oils has been a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since June 2010 — one of the longest-standing commitments among UK edible oil suppliers.
We source 100% RSPO certified palm oil across our entire bakery fats and hard oil range. Since 2019, all of our certified palm oil has been supplied to RSPO Segregated (SG) standard — one of the highest levels of RSPO supply chain certification, ensuring that every tonne of palm oil in our products is physically separated from non-certified material throughout the entire supply chain. Every tonne can be traced to certified sustainable sources, with no exceptions and no compromise.
What RSPO Certification Means
The RSPO is a global partnership uniting stakeholders across the palm oil supply chain to develop and implement standards for producing and sourcing certified sustainable palm oil. Organisations seeking RSPO certification must demonstrate compliance with these standards through a systematic annual audit process, maintaining and improving their compliance status as part of a commitment to continuous improvement.
The certification framework addresses some of the most critical environmental and social challenges in global agriculture, including:
- Deforestation prevention — protecting forests and high conservation value ecosystems
- Peatland protection — preventing drainage and conversion of carbon-rich peatlands
- Biodiversity conservation — safeguarding habitats and species in palm oil-producing regions
- Worker and community rights — upholding the rights of workers, smallholders, and local communities throughout the supply chain
The most recent 2024 RSPO Principles and Criteria introduced a strengthened integration with digital supply chain traceability, enhanced frameworks for protecting critical ecosystems, and a clearer, more auditable approach to responsible land management.
Our Commitment
We recognise that palm oil is one of the more complex sustainability topics in the food industry. As an ingredient, it remains widely used due to its unique functional properties and land-use efficiency compared to alternative oils — but responsible sourcing is non-negotiable.
Our RSPO membership and 100% certified sourcing policy reflect a straightforward belief: transparency, traceability, and accountability across our supply chain are the right standards to hold ourselves to — for our customers, for the communities and environments at the source of our ingredients, and for the long-term health of the food industry.

Global Reputable Suppliers
We source from established, internationally recognised suppliers who operate to high food safety and environmental standards. Our anti-slavery statement confirms that we assess all supply chain relationships for modern slavery risk.
Traceability & Transparency
Full traceability from raw ingredient source through to finished product is a requirement of our BRC AA certification. We can provide full documentation for all certified products on request.
Supplier Relationships
We maintain long-term relationships with key suppliers, which enables better visibility, consistency and the ability to work collaboratively on quality and sustainability improvements over time.
Ethical Trading
Our Modern Slavery Act statement, approved by the Board and signed by our Managing Director, sets out our commitment to preventing slavery and human trafficking in all activities and supply chains.

As a Merseyside-based employer with over 35 years of history, our relationship with the local community matters to us.
Local Employment
We employ over 80 people at our Whiston facility, providing stable, long-term employment in the local Merseyside economy. Many of our team have been with the company for a decade or more.
Training & Development
We invest in our people through ongoing training programmes — from food safety and HACCP to technical skills. Our anti-slavery commitment extends to ensuring our own workforce is treated fairly and with dignity.
