About this statement

This accessibility statement applies to olympicfoods.co.uk, operated by Olympic Oils Ltd (trading as Olympic Foods). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website regardless of ability, device or circumstance.

Although Olympic Oils Ltd is a private company and is not bound by the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, we voluntarily align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our baseline standard. We publish this statement in the interests of transparency and to support customers — including those operating within public-sector procurement environments — who require it.

How accessible this website is

We have designed this website with accessibility in mind. The following provisions are in place across all pages:

• A visible skip-to-content link appears on keyboard focus, allowing keyboard and screen-reader users to bypass repeated navigation.
• All interactive elements — navigation menus, buttons, and form fields — are reachable and operable by keyboard alone. Navigation dropdowns expose their state via aria-expanded; FAQ accordions and product filter buttons are correctly labelled for assistive technology.
• Colour contrast ratios meet or exceed the WCAG 2.2 AA minimum of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text and UI components.
• All meaningful images carry descriptive alt text. Decorative images and purely visual animations (such as the product image marquee) are marked aria-hidden="true" so they are ignored by assistive technology.
• Form checkbox groups are wrapped in <fieldset> and <legend> elements so their collective purpose is announced to screen readers when focus enters the group.
• The PET bottle production video on the Packaging page includes English-language captions. Short decorative background videos (such as the timeline clip on our About page) are marked aria-hidden="true" and are muted and looped without audio content.
• Font sizes scale with browser and OS text-size preferences; body text is never set below 13 px, and all text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
• Animation and transitions respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query — all scroll-reveal effects and marquee animations are disabled for users who have requested reduced motion in their operating system settings.
• The auto-playing background video on the homepage is muted, carries no audio content, and can be paused at any time via an on-screen pause control, in line with WCAG 2.2.2.
• The site is responsive from 320 px viewport width upward. Touch targets on mobile meet the 44 × 44 px minimum size recommendation.
• Dark mode is fully supported via prefers-color-scheme: dark, covering navigation, all content sections, the cookie consent banner, and the Olivia AI chat widget.
• Live search results and form success messages use aria-live and role="alert" respectively, so screen readers announce changes without requiring a page reload.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following areas where full WCAG 2.2 AA compliance has not yet been achieved:

Market Intelligence — live price ticker

The live commodity price ticker on the Market Intelligence page is provided by a third-party widget (TradingView). We do not control its markup or ARIA implementation. The ticker is supplementary data — all substantive market commentary is available in the downloadable PDF reports, which are accessible via standard browser controls.

Downloadable PDF certificates

Our BRC, Kosher and other certification documents are published as PDF files. Whilst they are readable with most PDF viewers, they have not been fully tagged for screen-reader navigation. If you require the content of any certificate in an alternative format, please contact us using the details below.

Product photography

A small number of product images use short descriptive alt text derived from product names rather than a full visual description. We are working to add more detailed alt text to the complete product catalogue on an ongoing basis.

Technical information

This website is built with semantic HTML5, CSS custom properties and vanilla JavaScript. It does not rely on any JavaScript framework for rendering content — all pages are fully server-rendered and readable without JavaScript enabled.

The technologies we rely upon for accessibility include: HTML, CSS, WAI-ARIA landmark roles and live regions, and the browser's native focus management. We do not use Flash, Silverlight or other deprecated plug-in technologies.

The site has been designed and manually reviewed for compatibility with the following assistive technologies:

• VoiceOver (macOS and iOS) with Safari
• TalkBack (Android) with Chrome
• Keyboard-only navigation (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)

Preparation of this statement

This statement was first prepared in April 2026 and was last reviewed and updated in July 2026.

The website was self-assessed by the Olympic Foods digital team against the WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria using a combination of manual review and automated tooling. In July 2026 we raised our target standard from WCAG 2.1 to WCAG 2.2 Level AA and re-assessed the site accordingly, including automated axe-core WCAG 2.2 A/AA scans across all pages, an independent third-party automated scan, and manual keyboard, heading-structure and colour-contrast checks. We intend to commission an independent audit by an accredited accessibility specialist before the end of 2026 and will update this statement to reflect the findings.
